They have overloaded the power progression onto heroes that are impossibly difficult to achieve high levels with, in hopes to have players buy hero keys.
I have played since 2 months after launch and will tell you the game as it is now is nothing like the game it was. It was engaging and rewarded you for the time you put into it.
